Start your day from Cowies Backpacker, located in the Colaba area of Mumbai. From there, take a short 5–10 minute walk to the nearby Colaba bus stop and board a bus heading toward Sassoon Dock, which is just a few minutes away. At Sassoon Dock, you can explore one of Mumbai’s oldest and most vibrant fish markets, rich in maritime history and local culture. After spending some time at the dock, take a walk to Dhobi Ghat, a fascinating open-air laundry where traditional washermen clean thousands of clothes daily in long concrete wash pens, offering a rare glimpse into a disappearing urban tradition.
Once you’ve taken in the sights at Dhobi Ghat, head to a nearby bus stop and board a bus going deeper into Cuff Parade toward the Koli Village. This historic fishing community is home to the Koli people, the original inhabitants of Mumbai. Here, you’ll experience a slower, more traditional side of the city, with fishing boats lining the shores and fresh seafood available right from the source. After exploring the village and perhaps chatting with some of the locals, return to the nearest bus stop and catch a bus back toward Colaba. Once you arrive at Colaba bus station, it’s a short walk back to Cowies Backpacker, completing a culturally rich and locally immersive day—all traveled by public bus.
