Your journey begins at Cowies Backpacker in Colaba, where you'll meet your group and guide. From there, we'll take a local bus to Churchgate train station and board a suburban train headed toward Dharavi.
Mumbai's Dharavi Slum is more than what meets the eye. Once your initial apprehensions are cast aside, you’ll step into a vibrant hive of life, work, and community. Upon arrival and meeting your local guide, you’ll head into Dharavi to experience the everyday rhythm of this remarkable place.
You’ll witness a range of small-scale industries in action—from exotic soaps and handmade cosmetics to pottery and textiles. As you walk through its narrow lanes, you’ll get an authentic view of how residents live, work, cook, and connect within the community. A major highlight is learning about the recycling economy—Dharavi is one of the world’s most efficient hubs for transforming waste into usable products.
If you have not selected the optional add-on tour of Dhobi Ghat and the Dabbawalas, your guide will accompany you back to the train station, hand over your Churchgate-bound train ticket, and ensure you board the correct train for your return journey. The tour officially ends upon arrival at Churchgate Station.
It’s a truly eye-opening experience that reveals the heart, hustle, and humanity of one of Mumbai's most misunderstood neighborhoods.
